Perhaps we were snug and cocooned in our secular beliefs, and the comfort of belonging to a country that let a thousand ideas bloom. The cocoon is crumbling, but if we can hold on to the integrity and compassion of our core beings, am hopeful we will become that verdant garden again.

June 2: Day 1 of my fast, day 827 of our chain.
If my idea of India were limited to Modi and his supporters, I would not be choosing to be an Indian citizen today. Contrary to what Amit Shah assumes, the idea of India is a deeply humane, inclusive and nurturing one. Those who count their fortunes only in terms of power and money cannot see how fortunate they are to be the children of India. They are mere plunderers, who will suck any place dry until it can give no more.

May 29: Day 1 of my fast, day 823 of our chain.
Can we hope for peace with violence? Lot of people believe so and all we get are lives cut short.
Uvalde tragedy reminded me of 149 Pakistani school children shot dead in 2014.
Historically peaceful measures have brought peace violence has not.
In this hope that one day peace will reign earth, I conclude my 24 hour fasting period.

May 28: Day 1 of my fast, day 822 of our chain.
On my evening walks in the colony, I sometimes listen to shabad with frequent references to Kabir, or switch to listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who sings, koi bole Ram Ram ….
There really is no difference in the fervour, the devotion, the love. And no matter the name, Ek Onkar or Brahman or Allah or God, all our hopes, our devotion go to the formless, nameless, unfathomable being/non-being. Why do people hate at all? Why can’t we choose love?
