Siraj Bi, a widow in her 40s, lost all her life’s belongings at the hands of the Hindutva mob in Khargone.

A few questions to my fellow Hindus:

— I used to enjoy illustrated comic book narrations of Ramayana as a child. After letting Ram be co-opted as a genocidal tool by Hindutva mobs, do you think your children will be able to look as innocently at those books again?

— After Gujarat 2002, I knew I’d never trust the Gujarat police. They ceased to be thinking, feeling, conscientious beings after they stood by Hindutva mobs as they wreaked indescribable violence on their Muslim neighbors. Today, that cancer has spread all across India. Are you truly feeling safer now? Prouder? Better? How long will your hate-addled high last?

— When you have driven away the Muslims and alienated everyone else in the world, who will you turn to but yourselves to consummate this insatiable appetite for hate, violence and chaos?

Apr 21: Day 2 of my fast, day 785 of our chain.

I am numbed by the genocidal atmosphere that has taken over India today. I cannot recognize the people I once used to love, respect and admire. I wish I could, but I simply don’t know how to touch their hearts anymore. I don’t know of anything more painful than this…
It makes me want to ask of my fellow Hindus:

Have you ever tried to be like those you truly admire?
Or were you merely tough enough to bear the ones you fear?

Did you ever respect the givers who give their best for nothing?
Or did you revere the bully who took your best for nothing?

Did you ever stop to listen to the wise and learned who seek the truth?
Or did you fashion yourself after the words of the fickle and the foolish?

Did you ever care for what is true and right and just?
Or do you only ever chase after whatever is most expedient?

Do you measure your life by all that you are able to give?
Or do you see yourself as just the sum of all the scraps you grabbed?

If writing about atrocities in India were a buffet, I’d be spoiled for choice. Should I write about about the bull-dozing of humanity and justice all across India? Should I write about the denial of bail to Umar Khalid for speaking about love and peace while Kapil Mishra roams free? Should I speak of the ballistic response I received from my cousins today for posting an article that politely enjoined Hindus to finally speak up against genocide in India?

No. Those feel like stale stories, that have been normalized so much that they reach no one, make no difference.

I’ll post today about a woman in India in a place called Modinagar in Delhi, who lost her 10-year old son to an accident due to lacking safety measures on his school bus.

The woman, Hindu, upper caste, upper class, was heartlessly admonished by another woman, also upper caste Hindu, the sub-divisional magistrate of Modinagar, as she wailed over the loss of her child.

Where does such monstrous heartless come from?
You think you can spew poison indiscriminately, thinking it will only affect a “chosen other”? Think again, for your own sake.
