July 25: Day 1 of my fast, day 880 of our chain.

We celebrate the release of #zoobear but sadly still have to wait for so many others incarcerated under UAPA. Read that Gautam Navlakha isn’t even allowed phone calls, and of course P.G. Wodehouse was thought to be seditious!

Some of these actions would be laughable if they weren’t to incredibly awful, cruel and even mean spirited. Clearly the hunger for control overpowers anything that is remotely humane.

This fast today is to affirm the need for kindness, humanity, peace, and the secular principles that India’s Constitution rests on.

July 22: Day 1 of my fast, day 877 of our chain.

Is our resistance to the fascist onslaught in India flagging? Are we too tired to fight for truth and justice? Are we willing to normalize what is going on around us, make our peace with the perversity that passes for governance nowadays?

What future are we leaving behind for our children?

July 23: Day 2 of my fast, day 878 of our chain.

We will not be indifferent.
We will not be part of the normalization of evil.
We will fight to the very end.

Having said that, we are shifting gears at #ChainFastingForPeace. I am personally dedicating more time to direct activism, and to writing. We will continue to fast everyday until our chain completes 1000 days. This should be significant enough to make Modi and his bhakts sit up and take notice, while making it clear to everyone that Modi is not universally accepted.

After completing 1000 days, we will still carry out group fasts, but if you want to be part of the nonstop chain before 1000 days are up, do get in touch. Only 122 more days to go.

July 24: Day 3 of my fast, day 879 of our chain.

Today, I got into a discussion about Dalit and Adivasi gullibility to the RSS’s dirty tricks to divide and conquer, vs. the need for oppressor caste atonement.

I think people born to oppressor castes need to take more responsibility towards sharing their privilege. They owe it to the oppressed to show more grace instead of pointing fingers at Dalit/adivasi failings.

Instead of arguing endlessly about what blame to assign to whom, I wish we could simply recognize the need to first make every historically oppressed person feel loved and cherished by developing more empathy towards them. Because otherwise we leave them no choice than to snatch a fleeting chance at love and respect wherever they can, even when it is certain to be a trap.
